Service

Have you experienced getting stared at by salesladies who judge you by your appearance? People today base one’s income or capacity to make a purchase on how he or she presents himself. But what if you just suddenly feel like going to the mall straight out from your bed? What if you live in one of the condominiums around Eastwood and you got so comfortable already that you don’t care as much as before about what you look like since you can always run back to your unit for a quick bath and change? I live in a condo and there would be times I’d have bed hair and I’d go straight to convenient store near us for a bite to eat. But because I rarely speak Filipino, I know people still respect me. Because let’s admit it. Reality speaking, your image unintentionally speaks for yourself. It’s exactly because of this kind of culture that I commend employees or staff who treat customers who go in their stores with utmost respect regardless of what you look like or what brand of bag you carry. If an employee is able to assist me without putting into consideration my appearance, I try my best to make a purchase in order to make their day. In moments like when a staff acts superior or above me, I hastily walk out the store to avoid getting into a confrontation with him or her. Good service is a primary element to keep customers coming. Whenever I speak with someone over the phone, my mom would remind me to speak in English to command respect. In fact, she tells me to sound older than my actual age so the person on the other side of the phone doesn’t belittle me. One time, I had to phone Lazada Philippine’s customer service to ask about the whereabouts of the high cut converse sneakers my mom bought for my younger brother. I talked to her like I was my mom’s age though I’m sure I came across as a lot younger. I accidentally forgot to keep up my fake age so she overheard me talking to my mom in my normal voice. With that in mind, I was sure that she’d talk to me differently and lessen my priority but surprisingly, she set aside this fact and still continued talking to me the way she did before she overheard my high eerie voice. This was a milestone for me because for years I have been putting up a front to every professional I speak with over the phone and every time, I end up stuttering or making a fool of myself. I still think I was just lucky to have encountered someone who follows protocol forcing him or her to act accordingly. But if this kind of behavior is followed in all types of establishments then shopping would become a lot easier. No more fear of getting hot-tempered because the lady in the cashier continues to roll her eyes every time you make a follow up order. Everything will become a lot easier and manageable not just for adults but for teenagers (even younger) like myself as well.
